What are Reading Fairy classes?

Created by early reading experts, Emily Guille-Marret and Charlotte Raby, Reading Fairy classes are designed  to develop the crucial building blocks for language development and reading for 1 to 5 year olds.  Our unique programme is based on the latest research and best early years practice.

We believe in learning through play and nurturing a love of reading through fun, age-appropriate activities shared with children and grown ups alike.

Each 40 minute session includes: sensory and performance storytelling, songs and rhymes, first words, fun phonics and picture book time.  We use puppets, bubbles, musical instruments and more to engage and delight children as they share stories and develop early reading skills at their own pace.

How do the classes work?

Every child is unique and the structure, along with the small number of children attending classes, ensures each child feels secure to participate in their own way and at their own pace.  Children are free to move around and engage with props and they quickly begin to learn about the different characters and the format of the class. The class leader guides the children, parents and carers through the various activities in each session.  Our classes are interactive because young children love it and learn so much when the adults around them are having fun and joining in too.

Siblings under 1 year are very welcome to come along to any class free of charge - it is amazing to see how much they enjoy Reading Fairy.

Who is Reading Fairy and who are her friends?

Reading Fairy is the core character of the classes.  She introduces the class, the other characters and shares a sensory story with the children.

Music Mouse brings instruments and nursey rhymes to the children with traditional songs to encourage language development.

Phonic Fox teaches children about letters and early phonic sounds.

Chat Cat (Toddler Tales onwards) helps children to grown their vocabulary as well as developing the crucial listening skills which are vital in enabling children to communicate and interact with the world around them.

Book Bear ends each session by providing every child with their own Book Bear, blanket and story book to share, helping children develop a love of books and reading.
